We are a lovely bunch, no doubt about it. Thanks to Donna, who works at Kickapoo Airport, for taking the picture. Here we are discussing next year's events, which include the BBQ Fundraiser, the Ninety-Nines Let's Fly Now program, and the Girl Scouts Aerospace program. Our very next event will be a Christmas gathering at Fox Hill restaurant on December 10th. Left to right, Mary Latimer, our indomitable president; Harriet Smith; me, your humble blogger; Kimberly Jackson, newly-elected treasurer; and LaVena Wilson, in whose hangar we will host the Girl Scouts.
Savannah and Sierra (both Wichita Falls 33s) and Monica (Wichita Falls Chapter), pose with the young women who flew in the chapter's first Let's Fly Now program at Kickapoo Airport, October 28th, 2018. Sheena Medsger and Jade McMinn (Wichita Falls Chapter) and Cheryl Mora (Houston Chapter) served as pilots for the event..
Our sleepy chapter, of all things, recently hosted the South Central Section Fall Conference. It was a large undertaking for a chapter with so few members. It became a special evening during which we awarded a Wright Brothers Award and listened to a young pilot in training to become an astronaut. As Mary, chapter president, put it, we experienced in one evening fifty years of the past and fifty years in the future.
Yayu Monica Hew joined our chapter recently, and was then asked by Mary Latimer to serve as the guest lecturer at the Conference. Monica talked about her life and what led to her decision to become an astronaut. She wishes to travel to Mars, and she wishes, too, to facilitate anyone's travel to Mars. Currently, she is studying for her IFR rating with Mary and Lawrence Latimer in Vernon, Texas.
